Abstract:
Disclosed is a cable connector that can provide either power only or data only in addition to the standard power+data. Currently, with powered USB cable connectors, you don't have option to use just USB or Power separately without having different cable.
Background:
The variety of USB ports on point of sale (POS) systems drives a large number of cables for manufacturing, business partners, and retailers to inventory. Specifically, powered USB (P-USB) ports are available in 5V, 12V, and 24V designs. What is needed in the industry is a way to reduce the number of cables without reducing connectivity.
Description:
We propose a configurable P-USB that can either provide power only, data only, or both. The connector has a integrated latches that can be slid to allow either of the data or power sections of the P-USB connector to be retracted and removed from the connection.
