Sanitary Touchless POS Keypad Receiver

Abstract:
This disclosure proposes a keypad on a card for entering the PIN to the credit or debit card itself. The card transmits the PIN entered on the card's keypad to the POS keypad so that the shopper doesn't have to touch the store's keypad.) 

 

Background:
During the COVID pandemic stores were having a hard time keeping the PIN Pad of the POS system sanitized. We have seen creative attempts like putting plastic bags over the pads because the keypads were susceptible to being damaged by sanitizing 
products. Our proposed solution is to prevent customers from having to push the keypad buttons with their fingers. Instead a PIN Pad would be contained on the shopper's debit or credit card. The shopper would key in their PIN on the card and the card would transfer the keyed sequence to the POS PIN Pad. 

 

 

Description:
Preferred embodiment of the invention: 
1) Customer approaches a checkout lane, kiosk, or ATM teller. 
2) He slides his debit/credit card into card reader. 
3) He uses the Pin Pad built into his card to answer questions on the screen, enter in PIN, and other requested info. 
4)The card communicates the keystrokes from the built in keypad to the card reader.)

 

Usages:

Minimizes users contact with POS systems, ATM’s etc. Card itself provides an interface to the POS and transmits keyed information to the Pin Pad via NFC.
    

Enabling Technology:

NFC enabled POS Keypads for “Tap to Pay” and communicating keyed input from the card.

 

Existing Art:

- www.google.com/patents/US8628021 , Debit/credit card device- We were not including a storage device on our card. We were focused on a keypad similar to the one displayed on this card. However we were not providing the ability to calculate or track balance. We are focused on how to send a code keyed into the card to the POS interface so that users would not have to use the POS buttons.
 

-  www.google.com/patents/US9727813 , Credit, security, debit cards and the like with buttons- We are not providing a control interface with the card other than what is needed to send the keyed code to the POS interface.

Our card should be cheaper to produce because we are not providing a screen on the card. We are also thinking the keyed pin would be transferred to the POS via NFC.
