Abstract:
This disclosure proposes a solution that will recognize the product by using AI and image processing and will blur other items and highlight the expected item.

Background:
It is pretty common that you are looking for a certain product in a retail store, then you do not find it at first try, so you keep going around the store, and after a few tries you finally find it in an already visited aisle.
Also, something similar may happen when the retailer decides to move products to another aisle, but you are not aware that the product has moved.

There are drawbacks of  known solutions. The store associates or supervisors may help you to find your product, but first you must find one unoccupied, since they are not always available.

Some stores have sections/department posters indicating what you may find on the aisles, but this still this may not help you to find a specific item.

Description:

We propose a solution that will recognize the product by using AI and image processing, it will not show the path to the item [a] and it will not require the bar code to be visible.

In our smart device we will indicate the product that we are looking for so we are located on the aisle we just need to point the camera of the device and if any product in the camera image match with the item we are looking for it will be indicated by using augmented reality linked to this and it will blur any other products visible on the image. In summary the disclosed idea proposes to identify the target product by blurring any products but the one we are looking for.

A benefit that we identify are the next one:

For the Retailer:

- They do not need to update an application each time they need to move a product into the store

- They do not need to keep maintain a map for each store model

- They do not need to invest in research to develop their own application

- This will help to improve the search time once you are in the correct aisle but may not identify the target product due to some factors (such as, product similarity or similar tags but different, too small to be spotted, Not in existence or out of stock).

For the Customer:

- This will help to improve the search time once you are in the correct aisle but but may not identify the target product due to some factors (such as, product similarity or similar tags but different, too small to be spotted, Not in existence or out of stock).

- This may help a visually impaired shopper.

- This may help any shopper that does not want to ask to a retailer associate for any reason.

The next image show the similarity of some products.

Enabling Technology:

  • Augmented Reality
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Image Recognition
  • Smart Device Application
