Abstract:
This solution provides a standardized mounting and Input/Output (IO) system that can allow multiple IO devices to be mounted to the outer edges of displays and All in One System units
Background:
For years we have been attaching Input/Output (IO) devices to the outside edge of our POS monitors, e.g., MSR readers, button readers, fingerprint readers, and cameras. Currently we create a custom port and mount point with a TTL or USB connector dedicated to the IO device. Then, later in the product life cycle we will decide that we want some other device connected to the edge of the monitor. This requires a new enclosure or adaptor to fit the new device to the old mount point. This solution provides a standardized mounting and IO system that can allow multiple IO devices to be mounted.
Description:
The solution proposes a standardized IO rail system that is built into the edges of the display with power and IO signals that allow multiple devices to attach. The IO system can be a single drop system such as USB or a multidrop system such as CAN bus with CAN bus being the most desirable since it would allow multiple devices with as few as 4 signals. For USB two extra signals would be required for each possible additional device.
