Abstract:
Disclosed is a system and method to have a shopping list which can be static and interacted with via connected devices and apps (such as home internet devices and loud-based task management applications) but also linked to a virtual avatar and active representation of a shopper.
Background:
The problem is that shopping lists are snapshots in time and traditionally static lists. If multiple people are interacting with the list at the same time, each user will only know the current state of the list at any given time.
Furthermore, even if multiple users can know that they are collaborating on a list (as some collaboration software allows), the behavior and interactions with the list are usually unchanged based on the different modes of usage.
Description:
In this system and method, a "list" can be represented as a static object most of the time and users can add, read, and modify the contents. When interacting with the list via an app or voice, the list simply responds with the appropriate changes and confirmation of the action. This represents the current state of the system and is existing behavior today.
However, this system and method will also allow for the list to become a synchronous/active shopping experience and will change its method of interaction when in this "live" mode.
Shoppers build a shopping list:
- add
- modify
- remove
Any shopper with access to the list begins a shopping transaction against that list:
- physically in a store
- in a virtual world (Social Platforms, or video games, etc.)
- online shopping
While the list is in "live" mode and being shopped, additional attributes are available:
- In basket
- paid
- being comparison shopped
- in hand
- returned to shelf
- substituted
- no longer available
These attributes and characteristics are present to the active shopper but are also available to those with access to the list:
- friends
- family
- spouses / kids
- housemates
Furthermore, when items are added to the list while it is "live" notifications and responses may be altered:
- real-time alerts may go to the shopper
- the UI may flash / highlight the items
- alternate push notification may be sent
The feedback to the item adder may also be altered:
- similar item already in cart
- shopper no longer in this zone
- would you like to substitute this FRESH vegetable with FROZEN given the shoppers current location / zone.
Furthermore, these notification and updates may be shared temporarily with 3rd party shoppers or pickers to alert the buyer and 3rd party picker that the order is no longer statically waiting but actively being worked on.
Furthermore, additional charges, loyalty, promotions may be added or removed during this new life-cycle phase of the shopping list / order.
