Abstract:
This disclosure proposes super personalized move-in recommendations generated for a customer who shops either digitally or in-store. When a customer moves from one city/address to another city/address, this solution is to generate a comprehensive shopping list based on their buying pattern , multi-category list of items (Ex. Grocery, Furniture, Kitchen & Dining, Outdoor living & Garden etc) based on purchases made by the location-specific population and items recommended for upcoming 3-6 months based on the climate of that particular location. Also, this recommendation process provides visualization of the look and feel of the new place based on the items available at the store.
Background:
Moving to a different city or changing the address in the same city is indeed a heavy-lift task and it can be stressful. One needs to do a lot of planning which involves shopping essential items, new furniture, decor etc. In this situation, the shopping list is endless and is often difficult to come up with a comprehensive list that has everything you need. Each place may bring its own set of surprises and what worked in your previous home might not work at new place.
Beyond cost, it takes time and energy to make all these decisions while you are adjusting to new environment. Apart from creating a list of items required, you also need to look for your trusted retailer where you have been a loyal customer to utilize the benefits of membership, gained rewards or promotions from your old purchases. In some cases, one may be moving to a new climate which they might not be familiar with.
All these things leave a customer with stress & frustration. This might even lead to missing out on multiple essential items and a customer can end up visiting the same store multiple times or multiple stores.
It is difficult and tricky when a customer wants to purchase a certain item which they are unsure about its measurement, or whether it will match the aesthetic of the other items or place. The situation becomes even trickier if the customer isn't confident about the overall style they want to achieve whether its modern, classic, contemporary or minimalist, which can lead to mismatches or unsuitable purchases.
There is a good possibility that a retailer could lose this customer to their competitors if they are in the vicinity.
Description:
Following is the process flow for main idea:
- When a customer is moving to a new location, they need to indicate their new address either in that retailer’s mobile app or in-store profile updating systems.
- A customer is offered a choice of selecting type of place they are moving to (House, Apartment, Condo etc)
- Based on the location & type of place provided, customer is displayed with following recommendations-
- Essential items list generated based on customer’s buying patterns
- General multi-category lists generated based on purchasing patterns of local population
- Must have items list generated based on next 3-6 months' climate/weather conditions data
- Mobile App should enable AI to capture & visualize the place by offering different types of aesthetics. It also has capability to input the measurements of different rooms, upload photos of the rooms and offer look & feel using only items that are available in that store or nearby stores.
(For Ex. I upload a photo of empty living room and also input the measurements and select “Modern” aesthetics. Based on my input, the app would show me a sofa of appropriate size, dining table with chairs, lightings, decor items etc. And provides convenient way to add them to checkout cart)
(For Ex. If a customer moves from North Carolina to Colorado in month of June, once that customer indicates that they are moving to Colorado, based on the past climate conditions data, app or assistive in-store screens displays a list of items that are recommended for next 3-6months like a winter coat, snow shoes etc)
With this solution, customers have access to a comprehensive move-in checklist right at their fingertips, easing the burden of settling into a new space. By offering AI enabled solutions like this, retailers can strengthen customer loyalty, retain their bases while allowing shoppers to fully leverage the benefits of their memberships.
