Abstract:
This disclosure proposes a new mechanism of a rotating plate for the SCO and combines existing ultrasonic and camera solutions to add automated detection of produce quality during SCO.
Background:
Often a customer buys overripe/unripe fruit in a supermarket and feels like they are having bad luck after tasting it on the dinner table. It might be stressful at dinner time, harmful to your health, and even more harmful for the store name brand. The problem needs a win-win solution which could help the customer in making good choices when picking fruit and vegetables and ensure the store keeps a healthy brand image. The idea envisions a new mechanism of a rotating plate for SCO and combine existing ultrasonic and camera solutions to provide automated detection of produce quality.
Description:
This idea uses ultrasonic and camera inspection methods integrated into the SCO system. While customers are performing check-out, our system will conduct an inspection of produce quality simultaneously and provide reminders about their choices. With the aid of camera monitoring, the detection of shape/color enhances and re-confirms the test results from ultrasonic inspection. The inspection with ultrasonic is a NDT(Non-Destructive Test) which will not alter the fruits/vegetables from their original condition due to the inspection. Also using the difference of echo time, we could gather information on density of fruit with a scientific/statistical method in order to have judgement on the quality.
Through camera monitoring, the detection of shape/color enhances and re-confirms the test results from ultrasonic inspection.

The track is designed with the sharp of star with a motor
Through rotating the plate and the motor will carry the sensor to detect the fruits/vegetables on any location of the platform.
