Abstract:
This disclosure proposes using a Robot that can adjust it's size to match a customer's body proportions to to have that Robot shop in a physical Retail Store and verify the fit, appearance, color of the selected items.
Background:
During the Covid-19 pandemic lots of stores had new mandatory rules which had to do a pre-screening of customer to make sure they are not sick during their store trip. This caused many customers to have to stay from home or shop online and stores lost lots of business. This idea will eliminate the need for customers to walk inside the store for shopping, with this idea customer can still be in the store in a designated "dressing room" and from there they can use their simulated robot which will do shopping instead of them. The robot appearance will be exactly like customer so if customer wants to pick something as true fit or exact size they can still get that experience.
Description:
Say a customer wants to shop in clothing department and wants to try out few dresses, with this true size simulated robot they can try the dresses and can see it real time in the "dressing room". Since the dresses are tried on a simulated robot to mimic the customer's appearance, the customer will know exactly how the dress fits them and this will help them buy the dress.
Online shopping experiences provide lots of tools to customer so that they can do a perfect measurement and is already being used by lots of online retailers, at the same time lots of customers prefer to shop in-store as they focus more on "true fit" of a dress or shoes or specially designed dresses, but considering the current Covid-19 pandemic where a customer has a medical condition in which the he/she may not be allowed to walk around in the store for shopping, an alternative is needed.
When a customer walks in to a designated "dressing room" and gets connected to VR, the room's special design will capture the customer's appearance digitally and the robot paired with this customer's "dressing room" will get a re-shape to simulate exactly the customer's body measurements. Then when this robot is walking inside the store to do shopping for customer, and customer wants to try shoes or a dress, since customer's exact appearance is simulated with robot, when that robot tries those shoes or cloth or jewelry etc. customer in the VR rooms can see how it fits and how it looks. This will help customer to do shopping with more confidence as they know exactly how the product looks. If a customer wants to shop with their kids, there could be multiple robots, 1 for each child and 1 for the adult, all the robots could then walk the store.
