Abstract:
This disclosure proposes a smart screwdriver that could implement a more automatic manufacturing process that could assist in determining what should be done in the process.

Background:
There are a lot of field problems or manufacturing problems because of uneven/unmatched torques applied to specific screws (too tight or too loose) or an unbalanced screwing process.

Sometimes the experienced field engineer can prevent this type of mistake, but we cannot always rely on the human beings to remember what they should and we still need to prevent mistakes in the field or factory.

Description:
Our idea is to design a smart screwdriver that could have a few unique technologies such as OID (optical identification) and a micro controller.

For example, the line operator uses the smart screwdriver with the OID.  The screwdriver will remind them which type of the screw to use, and it (screwdriver) will drive that screw with the proper torque automatically.  Once your screwdriver is approaching the screw, it will also detect if you are using a wrong type of the screw or the wrong type of screwdriver drive tip.

And if there is a specific process required, it will remind the operator to use it on right hand side first and then the other side with a certain depth or numbers of threads.  All reminders could be supported by the voice from the screwdriver.
